A Weekend of Peruvian Culture, Community, and Celebration in Dublin

Some weekends leave behind more than memories; they leave a feeling of connection and remind us what it means to create something together. For Peru Fusion, the first weekend of May became exactly that: a celebration of culture, friendship, and the joy of sharing a piece of Peru with Dublin.

From multicultural festivals to spontaneous photo sessions around the city, the group experienced days filled with music, dancing, laughter, and moments that reflected the spirit of the community they continue to build.

Bringing Peruvian Culture to the Stage

The journey began at the Connect Multicultural Festival in Millennium Park, Blanchardstown, an event created to bring together cultural communities from across the region. The atmosphere was welcoming from the very beginning: organised spaces, supportive staff, and people eager to enjoy performances from different backgrounds.

For the dancers of Peru Fusion, preparation started early. Costumes, makeup, rehearsals, and final touches quickly transformed the backstage area into a lively mix of excitement and anticipation. Over 20 minutes on stage, the group presented several traditional Peruvian dances, that represented the different regions of the country: The Highlands, The Coast, and The Amazon, and ended in a group choreography that brought colour, rhythm, and energy to the festival.

But beyond the performances themselves, what stood out most was the feeling of connection.

As Cristobal Vigar shared, every new event strengthens the bond between the members of the group. Each rehearsal, each stage, and each shared experience feels like part of a dream that started with only a few people and gradually became something everyone carries together. He joined the group a little over a year ago.

A Parade Full of Energy and Two Special Guests

The following day brought another memorable moment: Peru Fusion’s participation in the XV Latvian Culture Festival, held in the heart of Dublin and welcoming cultural groups from across the city.

For the group, the festival evolved into three memorable parts: the parade, the performances, and a creative photo and video session around Temple Bar.

The parade quickly captured people’s attention. Music filled the streets as the dancers moved through the crowd, but two very special newcomers became the unexpected stars of the day: a Peruvian guinea pig “El Cuy” and a cool llama from the Happy Llama store, both costumes inspired by Peru’s cultural imagery.

According to Talía Lizarbe, who joined early this year, the public loved them immediately. The photo and video session that followed became one of the most enjoyable moments of the weekend. At one point, everyone simply started dancing spontaneously, creating a relaxed and joyful atmosphere that naturally spread to the people watching nearby.

That feeling of togetherness became one of the strongest memories of the event.

For some members, this was not their first performance with Peru Fusion, but the excitement remained just as strong.

Talía, described the stage performance as one of her favourite moments of the festival. It was her third dance presentation with the group, and she felt proud not only of her own performance, but also of the collective effort, passion, and energy shared by everyone involved.

And the experience did not end when the festivals were over.

Peruvian Culture Takes Over Dublin Airport

In one of the weekend’s most amusing adventures, members of the group headed to Dublin Airport for a creative video session featuring the now-famous llama and guinea pig characters.

The idea was simple: film their “arrival” in Dublin and invite people to the upcoming Peruvian Day party on July 26th at the Button Factory.

The scenes around Terminal 2 quickly turned into a playful storytelling experience filled with humour, improvisation, and laughter. From the arrivals area to the airport bridge, every location became part of the story.

What made the weekend truly special was not only the festivals themselves, but also the atmosphere created around them. Behind every costume, dance step, and photograph was a group of people genuinely enjoying the experience of building something together.

Through festivals, dance, and simple moments of joy, Peru Fusion continues to strengthen a sense of community and create spaces where Peruvian culture can be shared, celebrated, and experienced warmly within Dublin’s multicultural communities.
